Going on a first date can be both exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. Where should you go? What should you do? Should you play it causal or should you make it more romantic? The questions, and the doubts can be overwhelming, to say the least. You want to make a good impression – not too clingy and not too distant, but how do you know what direction to take? Well, all of your feelings are normal, and healthy, believe it or not. The good news is that this article will provide you with unique and creative ideas for your first date.
Listed below are creative ideas for a first date:
Go Roller Skating
Remember when you were a child and roller skating was one of the major highlights of your life? If so, why not create that fun experience for your first date. Roller skating is the “perfect” first date because it is light and easy, and it gives you both a chance to laugh at yourselves and each other. In addition, it gives you an opportunity to see each other’s true personalities. Lace up a pair of roller skates and head to your nearest roller skating rink. If your date does not know how to roller skate – teach him or her. Don’t be embarrassed if you or your date falls – that is just part of the fun. Help each other up and continue on. If you are looking for a little romance, hold hands as your skate. Roller skating will help you get to know each other better, and bring you closer together.
Attend a Comedy Show
Who doesn’t like to laugh, especially on a first date? Not many. If you want to have a fun first date that will keep both you and your date in “stitches” then a comedy show is the key! Comedians are experts at adding humor into any topic and situation (i.e. relationships, family dynamics, celebrities, politics, children, etc.). Some comedy clubs even offer amateur comedy nights, in which you and/or your date can offer up your own jokes, if you are brave enough. So, purchase tickets to a comedy show and be prepared to laugh your butt off.
Yes, I said it – double date for your first date. Having another couple present will definitely take the pressure off of you and your date. It will also give you an idea of how your date will “behave” around other people. Is he or she considerate? Easy-going? Fun? Flexible? Serious? Uptight? Does he or she get along with others well? These are important factors to consider when deciding to date someone indefinitely. Invite another couple over and order pizza, wings or pick up hamburgers. Rent movies from Redbox, Netflix or On Demand and/or play board and/or card games like: War, Truth or Dare, Twister, and/or Pictionary. If you want to add a little silly fun to your double date – rent or purchase a karaoke machine, and belt out the lyrics to your favorite songs.
Cook a Meal Together
Why not cook a meal together for your first date? It’s different and unique, and quite fun. Decide what meal to cook, in advance, and develop a grocery list together. Collect the ingredients for your meal, and save them for when your date comes over. Once he or she arrives, pull out some wine or beer, and begin preparing your meal – together. Share your cooking memories and thoughts with each other, while you cook, and use this time to get to know one another better. If possible, prepare an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Try to make your meals as lovely and creative as possible. It is important to note – use caution when going to someone’s home on the first date. Make sure someone knows where you are going, how to contact you, and who you are going to see. If you feel uncomfortable when you arrive at your date’s home – leave. Go with your gut – it is trying to tell you something. Otherwise, enjoy your time together.
Go on a Picnic
Yes, go on a picnic for your first date. A picnic is low-key and easy-going, which is highly appealing on a first date. Pack some sandwiches, sodas or teas, chips, and cookies and head to your local park. Don’t forget to bring a blanket, kites, and/or a Frisbee. Place your blanket under a large tree and spread out your lunch. Once you are finished eating, get up and have a little outdoors fun. Toss around a Frisbee or challenge your date to a kite competition (i.e. who can keep the kite in the air the longest). If you and your date are dog lovers, bring your pets along on the date. You would be amazed how animals can “break the ice” on a first date. Bonding over your love for dogs will take the edge of your first “official date.”
Visit a Tourist Attraction
Although you may have lived in the same state, town, city or area for all of your life, that doesn’t mean you can’t re-experience it with someone else on your first date. Visit your local museum, haunted house, amusement and/or water park, historical monument, themed restaurant, etc. with your date. It will give you a chance to bond over shared interests. It will also help you determine how much you really have in common with one another. Furthermore, it will give you something to talk about later over dinner and drinks.
